Quality assurance literacy is kind of the "meta literacy" of all other literacy's because it is needed in all of them. With all the new technology out there today it is really easy to create new websites and other things that can be posted on the internet. The unfortunate part of this is anyone can post things on the internet that can be made to look great and professional but the websites might lack quality of content, and the content may be completely false. People have to be very careful when on the internet because you really never know if your looking at a site that is giving false information or not. The only way to know whether the information is true, is you have to cross reference a couple different sites that you know to be reliable. If you do not know of any pick 2 to 3 sites and see if their information is essentially the same, if so there is a good chance the information is true. Then by doing this you should know whether the previous site you were on was truthful in their information.
One site that I personally am careful with is http://www.wikipedia.org/ because anyone can post information on it whether they know what their talking about or not.

I definitely agree what is being said. With the amount of people today that are able to access information on the internet it questions if it is correct or not. I think that it is important to look at more than one website when you are searching for information to make sure that it is correct. It is most important to do this when you are working on a report or any other document that is going to be viewed by others. Giving accurate information is important and it is becoming a more difficult task to do. That is why it is beneficial to view information on more than one site to make sure that it is viable and correct.
ReplyDeleteMike's post describes an essential tool in the world today. Not only are people creating false sites, but they are advertising them as the better sites to use. It doesn't allow people to gain full and truthful knowledge on the subjects that they may be researching, and many people won't know this until they hand in an assigment or a research paper, and they receive a bad mark. It's definately not fair that people are doing this, but like Mike said, this is why you need to cross reference, and double check that the information you are finding is thruthful. There are some sites that will most definately be reliable, but don't be afraid to double check and research elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the invitation to view your blog. I agree with your opinion.

I agree with Mike all the way, I believe that false information can not only be bad for just regular use, but if you can imagine writing a paper on false information. Retrieving information from the internet can be very difficult, because there are so many sources of information. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish whether the information is false or true. Other more reliable sources would be to use databases, or for more accurate information you can use a text book at the library. Information taking from the internet must be very carefully analyzed, because the risk it posses to the readers of the information. To conclude, this is why I strongly agree with Mr. Stiver.
